The Festival Chorus
The choir was founded some eight years ago. Originally the choir was formed by Bridlington Churches Together with members of some 15 local church choirs coming together to form the choir. It became the Festival Chorus to encourage people living in local communities to join the choir. Today the majority of members are still associated with local churches and we are proud to say that most churches denominations are represented in the choir along with non-church members. We are a mixed choir of about 50 members and all are welcomed to join our friendly choir.
But we are not just a choir we have our own band. We currently have 10 players -piano, keyboards, violins, cello, flutes, clarinets, oboe, guitar, base guitar and brass, which help bring the performances to life. We are always on the look out for more musicians to join the band so what ever instrument you play if would like to join us why not give us a call.
What we do
Each year the choir produces a gospel musical. This is staged in village halls, church halls and churches around the region. This year we will be performing THE GLORY OF CHRISTMAS a cantata by Jimmy and Carol Owens. This tells the Christmas Story in a modern dynamic musical setting. It has humour, dramatic choral numbers, soft tender solos, settings of some wel-know carols and numbers especially for children to perform – something for all the family.
Our Rehearsals started on Thursday 31st August and will continue each week leading up to the shows in early December. There are no auditions to join the choir so all are welcomed. We are a friendly choir and even if you have never sung in a musical before we will help you along and it is good fun.
