The 2017 Story

The Glory of Christmas by Jimmy and Carol Owens

According to the composers “The Glory of Christmas” is for all ages to sing: choir, soloists, audience and children. They have combined treasured traditions with fresh insights to show the characters in the grand old story as warm, live human beings rather than figures of plaster and papier- mâché. It has elements of humour, pathos and the mixture of emotions felt by those people most closely involved with the amazing event.

This musical takes you on the journey from the introduction by the angel to a village girl called Mary that she was to carry deity in her womb to the birth of the baby Jesus. Using the power of a modern musical you will experience the human reality of the Christmas story perhaps in a way you have never experienced it before. If you were Joseph how would you teach the Son of God to grow up as a normal man?

Journey with the wise men as they follow a star and wonder where it was taking them. What about the Shepherds beside themselves as they try to make sense of what they have seen and heard.  A quote from the composers’ web site says:

“These were real people who had to deal with the most astounding and blessed event mankind has ever known. They are what The Glory of Christmas is about.”

This musical will be performed by the East Coast Churches and Community Festival Chorus with the Festival Ensemble conducted by Anthony Clarke. They will be joined at various locations by the local primary school choir.

This year we have two afternoon performances, one at Christ Church, Bridlington and one at All Saints Church, Hunmanby. So if you cannot make an evening performance there is an opportunity to see the show. (See over for locations).   Our Thursday evening performance will be staged during the Rotary Club of Bridlington’s Annual Christmas Tree Festival at Burlington St John’s Methodist Church St John’s Street, Bridlington and our Friday night performance will be at Our Lady and St Peter Primary School, George Street, Bridlington.
